Phased Mastery™ helps teachers and school leaders connect curriculum, assessment, collaboration, and student support through a shared understanding of learning. The framework centers on understanding what students need to learn, interpreting what they show us, and deciding how to respond within the resources and structures schools already use.

The framework centers on how learning develops and how educators use student evidence to guide instruction. Our current paid offering applies that work to elementary mathematics through Phased Mastery™ Math Implementation, a multi-month partnership for Grades 3–5 teams.

Learning progressions describe how understanding develops toward a learning goal. They help educators look beyond the name of a standard to identify the ideas and skills students are developing. Teams use student evidence alongside these progressions to consider what students understand and what they may need next.

Phased Mastery™ was founded by Kallie Ash, a current elementary teacher whose classroom experience shaped the framework. Learning progressions helped her find greater clarity in instructional decision-making, and she created Phased Mastery™ to help teachers and school leaders build that understanding together. It is a multi-month school partnership for Grades 3–5 mathematics teams. Teachers build a shared process for understanding learning, interpreting student evidence, and deciding how to respond within the mathematics instruction already happening at their school.

No. Phased Mastery™ works alongside the curriculum, assessments, and resources your school already uses. The focus is on connecting those pieces to support clearer instructional decisions.

The partnership includes a review of your current mathematics structures, initial team training, and multiple months of implementation support. Teams receive practical tools and resources, monthly virtual support, and leadership communication. In-person partnerships also include school visits. Your proposal outlines the specific scope and scheduling.

The full grade-level team participates in the initial training and classroom implementation. Monthly virtual support sessions may involve the team, a coach, or a team lead, depending on your school’s implementation plan.

Yes. Fully virtual Phased Mastery™ Math Implementation partnerships are available outside Indiana. In-person partnerships are available in Indiana where travel and scheduling can be accommodated.
